February Principal's Update
2/1/2019February 2019 Update
Dear Mercy Families,
We are now approaching Lent and hopefully, some beautiful spring weather. I wanted to let everyone know that we hosted another wonderful Open House last month. We are excited that to date we have offered admissions to students from over 70 new families, as well as to the growing siblings of our current school families. We look forward to welcoming all to the nest for 2019-20! If all admission offers are accepted, we will start the year above our current enrollment of 967 students. I am also excited to let you know that following our re-enrollment period, we are expected to retain 98% of our current student body and 98% of our faculty and staff. So to sum it all up, thanks to our faculty, staff, open house volunteers, and Mrs. Mari Buzbee (Admissions Director) our Admissions season was a huge success.
The new gym construction is scheduled to be completed in early August in time for the start of the school year. As our campus is experiencing growth, we are also excited about the growth we are showing in the area of our standardized test scores. We look forward with great expectation to receiving our final scores this summer. Shout out to our wonderful and dedicated faculty who work so hard to prepare our students for their futures.
We are very proud to announce that Fr. Cleo has been chosen to receive national honors. Later this spring in Chicago, he will be awarded the Lead, Learn and Proclaim award by the National Catholic Educators Association. It is truly a special time for our community, and we should thank God for the blessings He continues to bestow upon up each day.
We cannot, however, become complacent. Although we have achieved many accomplishments in the past several years, we must continue to plan and prepare for the future of our school and its families. Planning for the future is a driving force as we are moving forward with a plan to bring one-to-one technology to our middle school, beginning with the 2020-21 school year. We remain constant in evaluating our curriculum in order to maintain excellence.
As I complete my 35th year in Catholic Education, I cannot help but think of the countless people God has put in my life. I know what they have all given to me, and I can only pray that with God’s help, I have given something to them along the way as well. One thing I’ve learned is that what we do is important, but why we do it is most important. I have watched our community grow and work together, love and support each other, pray for and nurture each other. It is such an awesome expression of God’s love and a beacon of light for this community. Thank you all for partnering with us in the education of your children, and may the peace of Jesus Christ be in your family.
Yours in Christ,
Christopher T. Porche, M.Ed.
